Border Roads Organization (BRO) deployed REJUPAVE Technology of CSIR-CRRI in Arunachal Pradesh
CSIR-CRRI’s REJUPAVE Technology: India’s premier road construction agency, Border Roads Organization (BRO) has deployed REJUPAVE Technology at the Sela Road Tunnel and the LGG-Damteng-Yangste (LDY) road near the China border in Arunachal Pradesh. Additional Director General (East), BRO, PKH Singh in a press statement said this technology brings down the production and rolling temperature of bituminous mixes by 30 degrees Celsius to 400 degrees Celsius with negligible heat loss in the bituminous mix during transit, despite long haulage time amid snowfall and it will increase the working window of road construction companies of BRO and help us to build a robust road network at a faster pace under challenging conditions.

About the REJUPAVE Technology

Aspect | REJUPAVE | Normal Roads |
---|---|---|
Heat Retention | Incorporates special additives to enhance heat retention, keeping the road mix hot during transportation and paving. | Relies on traditional road mix, which may cool rapidly during transportation and paving, especially in cold conditions. |
Paving Method | Utilizes Pre-Fab Paving method, allowing for faster construction by laying a base layer first and adding subsequent layers later, regardless of weather conditions. | Typically follows conventional paving methods, where all layers are sequentially laid, often requiring ideal weather conditions for each step. |
Road Mix Composition | Uses specific rock sizes and additives optimized for cold temperatures, improving durability and compaction in adverse weather. | Typically consists of standard aggregates and asphalt mix, which may not perform as well in freezing conditions without special modifications. |
Construction Efficiency | Accelerates road construction, particularly in freezing conditions, by mitigating delays caused by rapid cooling of the road mix and allowing construction to proceed in adverse weather. | Utilizes the Pre-Fab Paving method, allowing for faster construction by laying a base layer first and adding subsequent layers later, regardless of weather conditions. |
Long-Term Performance | Offers superior long-term performance, especially in cold and challenging environments like Arunachal Pradesh, resulting in durable and resilient roads. | Performance may vary depending on climate and environmental factors, with potential vulnerabilities to cold weather-related issues such as cracking and deformation. |
Developed by Border Road Organisation ( BRO), REJUPAVE Technology’s road had higher heat retention as it has properties of the bituminous rocks as it is made by mixing by coating the aggregate mix with special hydrocarbon-based additives. Secondly, it has a unique construction sequence called Pre-Fab paving where a base layer is paved and allowed to completely cool and set before overlaying with the top hot bituminous layer. Finally, it has special dominant stone skeleton gradations which have better resistance to deformation under rolling/compaction at roads compared to normal roads of cities and towns.
