Nepal Declares Pokhara as Its Tourism Capital to Boost Its Tourism Industry

Pokhara: The Nepal government declares Pokhara, a city in the Gandaki province, as their tourism capital for the tourism industry in a special ceremony held at the Barahi Ghat on the shores of the Phewa Lake attended by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. It is done to expected to attract more foreign tourists and boost the local economy as tourism  is a major contributor to Nepal’s economy.

Pokhara located 200 kilometres (120 miles) west of the capital, Kathmandu is a metropolitan city in central Nepal, serving as the capital of Gandaki Province and tourism capital of Nepal.[4] It is the second most populous city of Nepal after Kathmandu, with 599,504 inhabitants living in 120,594 households in 2021 where it is the country’s largest metropolitan city in terms of area. The city also serves as the headquarters of Kaski District. Pokhara is The city is on the shore of Phewa Lake, and sits at an elevation of 822 m where The Annapurna Range, with three out of the ten highest peaks in the world—Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu—is within 15–35 mi (24–56 km) of the valley.
