The Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR) is a magnetic fusion device located at the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy in Daejeon, South Korea. Its purpose is to study magnetic fusion energy like ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor)It features fully superconducting magnets, making it one of the first research tokamaks in the world to do so. These magnets help create and control the plasma needed for fusion reactions. The reactor vessel has a major radius of 1.8 meters and a minor radius of 0.5 meters, with a strong magnetic field of up to 3.5 Tesla and a plasma current of up to 2 megaamperes. The device uses various methods to heat and control the plasma, including neutral beam injection, ion cyclotron resonance heating, and electron cyclotron resonance heating. Initially, it studied plasma pulses lasting up to 20 seconds, but it’s planned to upgrade to pulses lasting up to 300 seconds.
