Harappan Settlement in Kachchh, Gujarat: Recently, archaeologists from Kerala University found the 5,200-year-old Harappan Settlement in Kachchh, Gujarat at Padta Bet in Gujarat, near Khatiya village in Kachchh district, Gujarat. Led by assistant professors Abhayan G.S. and Rajesh S.V. from Kerala University’s Department of Archaeology, they praised the team’s efforts and called it a significant contribution to Indian history. This project is a joint effort between institutions such as the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology, the Spanish National Research Council, Albion College, Texas A&M University, with Kerala University.

A.) What had they found
The excavation uncovered evidence of a Harappan settlement dating from approximately 3200 BCE to 1700 BCE. Among the discoveries were circular and rectangular structures constructed from locally available sandstone and shales. Additionally, unique pottery traditions, semi-precious stone beads, terracotta spindle whorls, copper artefacts, lithic tools, and fragments of animal bones were unearthed.
