3rd edition of the North East Games 2024: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday declared the 3rd edition of the North East Games 2024 in the city of Nagaland. at the Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence, Sovima. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, also the president of the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) declared the 3rd Edition of Northeast Games 2024 where the event of state more than 3000 athletes from eight North Eastern states are competing in 15 disciplines being held across 12 venues in three districts – Chumoukedima, Dimapur, and Kohima. The 3rd edition of North East Games 2024 will include archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, lawn tennis, pencak silat, sepaktakraw, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, and wushu in coming times. The North East Games, held every four years, is a major multi-sport event that brings together the best athletes from the eight Northeastern states of India – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, where different states will share their sporting talent of the region while promoting a spirit of unity and sportsmanship among the participating states.

Abu Metha, the organizing secretary of NEG 2024 and working president of NE Sports Association commented on their state commitment to sports promotion while commending a grand celebration of sportsmanship and athleticism as the schedule and venues. As the competition unfolded, Riteeka Sarki advanced to the semifinals in the women’s 57kg category in a boxing match while Ritina Hanse secured silver in the women’s 400m race, clocking 1 minute and 2.05 seconds. Usefulness Lyngdoh Nongum (women’s -70kg) and Kyrshanlang Lyngdoh (men’s -50kg) reached to their finals but settled for silver medals after losing their last bouts. Meghalaya’s table tennis teams, both men’s and women’s, clinched two bronze medals each, while the men’s basketball team suffered a defeat against Mizoram, however, the football team redeemed themselves with a 2-1 victory over Tripura.
